Bogotá, the capital city, is located at a height of 2,600 m. Historical landmarks include the Capitol (congress building) and Capilla del Sangrario, a cathedral, on Plaza Bolivar, the main square. Other highlights in Bogotá include the Museo del Oro, one of the best pre-Columbian museums in the world. It also has two splendid churches, namely, the Iglesia de Santa Clara and the Iglesia de San Ignacio.
Cartagena sits on the Caribbean coast and is a picturesque, colonial-walled fishing village of buildings, cathedrals, and plenty of Spanish colonial architecture and seventeenth-century forts. The white sand beaches are truly enticing.
The famous Salt Cathedral in Zipaquirá is an underground church built within a salt mine. The Tayrona National Park is one of Columbia’s popular parks. The ruins of Ciudad Perdida (Lost City) in Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and the massive stone statues in San Agustín Archaeological Park are breathtaking.
