Bucaramanga is an administrative division and also the capital city of the section of Santander in Colombia. It is also Colombia's eighth largest metropolitan area and has grown much rapidly after 1960. It is situated on the plateau in the Colombian Andes and is surrounded on the western side by Rio de Oro Canyon settled at an elevation of 600m. The total population of the city was found to be 949,174 according to the 2005 census hence it is regarded to be the eighth most populated city in Colombia. The total area of the city has been found to be 63.7 square miles according to the Census Bureau. Manufacturing of petroleum, textiles and shoes are the major industries in the city. The city is regarded to be the base centre of the Colombian Institute of Petroleum. The city has a very good reputation in the field of education because of the numerous universities present within the city itself. A maximum percentage of the city’s population belongs to the catholic origin hence Christianity is the religion followed here. The climate is here is neither hot nor cold and 22 degrees is the average temperature throughout the year.
