Santiago de Cali, better known as Cali, is the main city and capital of the Valle del Cauca Department in western Colombia. The city rests approximately 1,000 m above sea level and its topography is fairly flat.
Proximity to the equator guarantees no major seasonal variations: warm with almost perennial rains. The Western Mountain Range screens the flow of humidity in the cross breeze into the city, lending a balmy feel to Cali’s afternoons.
Historically, Cali was an important trade centre by virtue of its central location with respect to the mining regions of Colombia. Today, with 2 million inhabitants, it is a bustling industrial and commercial centre, perfectly complementing the laidback essence of the city that enlivens you with its passion for salsa, soulful music and its amiable people.
