It deserves a visit the old town of Cartagena with its Castillo de San Felipe , the historic Spanish fortress, build in the 17th century and survived attacks by pirates. The Convento de la Popa , is an old monastery and contains a statue of the Virgin of Candelaria.
Worth of mention is the Museo de la Esmeralda , a little museum in the middle of the old city. The Palace of the Inquisition , wich displays original tools of torture.
Cartagena’s cuisine combines ingredients of the new and the old world: typical dish consists of fried fish, chicken served with “arroz de coco” (coconut rice) and “patacones” .
Cartagena is situated in a tropical location and the climate changes very little. The temperatures fluctuate between 24°C and 30°C.
