Ibagua, the capital city of the Tolima department, is a small city of half a million residents, wedged between two rivers on the eastern slopes of the Cordillera Central.
One thousand two hundred and fifty metres above sea level guarantees escape from the tropical heat, embalming Ibagua with a perennial spring-like climate. The average temperature hovers around 15°C, with a maximum of 25°C.
Neighbouring getaways such as Villa Restrepo endow Ibagua with a nonchalant yet vibrant hue. By virtue of being on the road that traverses the Quindio Pass, the city doubles up as an important commercial centre.
Farming, tourism and bureaucracy offer the principal sources of occupation. However, better known as the ‘musical city of Colombia’, the culture of Ibagua is distinctly expressed through its passion for music.
