The capital of the Department of Meta is a city and municipality in Colombia called as Villavicencio. Locally, this city is referred to as “Villavo.” The distance of this city from the Colombian capital city of Bogota is 75 kilometers. Villavicencio is located by the Guatiquia River which borders the city in the North direction. The region in which this city is situated is called as Orinoquia. Here, the Eastern Plains start and a major part of the city’s urban region is in a flat terrain. The great Colombian-Venezuelan plain on which this city is located is called as Los Llanos. Villavicencio is located on the historical path from the Colombian interior to the vast savannas that is situated between the Andes range and the Amazon rainforest.
As per the 2005 census, the population of Villavicencio was 361,058.
The average temperature of Villavicencio is 27 degrees Celsius. As this city is located close to the footsteps of the Eastern Ranges of the Andes, the climate is very hot and humid.
