The Mitad Del Mundo - Attractions in Quito

The word Mitad Del Mundo means middle of the world.

As per modern science and technology, the equator lies here at Mitad Del Mundo.

The monument you can see at the Mitad Del Mundo is located on the line of the equator and the museum is inside the monument.

It is located about 20 kilometers to the north of Quito and has a beautiful showcase of artefacts from various ethnic groups who live or have lived in Ecuador.

At the monument you can see the line of the equator and can take interesting pictures of the southern and northern hemisphere.

Interestingly there is another place nearby which also claims to be the equator, and this site is identified by GPS (Global Positioning System) as the center of the earth. Many astonishing facts are shown here, like the balancing of the egg on a nail on the equator.

One has to visit this site and see the facts to believe them.

There is another interesting museum of 'Inti-nan' (path of the sun) about 50 meters from the park in which the monument stands.
