The ‘Garden City of the Caribbean’, Georgetown is the capital and the largest city of Guyana. It is located in the Demerara-Mahaica region and serves as Guyana’s a commercial and administrative centre.
With a population of about 213,705, Georgetown was primarily designed by the Dutch. Colonial architecture with tree-lined avenues adds to the city’s quaint charm.
Characterized by an equatorial climate, the temperatures are moderated by the sea breeze. Georgetown has two wet seasons, extending from May to June and from December to January.
Georgetown is the seat of the central Government of Guyana. All administrative and major government buildings are located in the city. Georgetown also contributes significantly to the Guyana’s economy.
