Luque, the central region in Paraguay serves as the headquarters of Conmebol. It is a division of the Gran Asuncion urban area. It was founded in the year 1635 by Juan Diez de Andino; the Spanish conquistador. The Silvio Pettirossi International Airport is located here. The city of Luque stretches from the Ypacarai Lake to the west coast of the Paraguay River. It is impacted by the strong weather conditions and it has no natural barriers. It is spread over 188.43 square kilometres in area. Its latitude and longitude are 25° 16' 0S and 57° 34' 0W respectively. It has an altitude of 120 meter. It had a total population of 176,433 according to the census of 2002. The EST time zone is UTC-4(-3DT).The area is famous for the manufacture of Paraguayan harps, stringed instrument, guitars and filigree jewels made of gold and silver. Important cities and towns of Luque are Banco San Miguel in the west; La Mercedes and Puerto Botanico in the North; San Lorenzo, Fernando de la Mora and Cuatro Mojones in the south
