Ayacucho is the capital metropolis of Huamanga Province, Ayacucho area, Peru. Ayacucho which is famous for its thirty seven churches was set up on April 25th 1540 by Francisco Pizarro. Several religious celebrations are conducted in the city during the Holy Week. Horse races and jalatoro (traditional running of bulls) is the main feature of the celebrations. The city of Ayacucho is named after the battle of Ayacucho. It is a metropolis of nostalgia and gossip which fill’s ones eyes with tears if they are at Ayacucho during the holy week. The healthy and temperate climate and prickly pear encircled by it make Ayacucho as one of the vital tourist destinations of the Peruvian Andes. It is a very quiet and calm city with 32000 citizens. The city was the capital of a large colonial town and the final pre-Inca empire. “La Quinua” is a place located near Ayacucho, where the conflict of Ayacucho occurred in 1824. This battle ended up with Spanish supremacy.
