Chiclayo is the capital of Lambayeque, North Peru. It is about 770 kilometres away from Lima, the capital metropolis of Peru. The city was founded during 1500s as “Santa Maria de los Valles de Chiclayo”. It was the president Felipe Santiago Salaverry who gave the title Chiclayo to the city on the fifth of April 1835. Chiclayo is today’s most vital urban regions of Peru. It is the fourth largest metropolis of Peru after Arequipa, Trujillo and Lima. The total population of the city is around 738,000. Since Chiclayo has several Modern features, the city is considered as the friendliest city of Peru. Due to these characteristics, Chiclayo is called as the Pearl of the North and The Capital of Friendship. It is one of the quickest growing metropolises of Peru and is located at the heart of an agricultural region where sugar cane, rice and cotton is cultivated. There are distilling, dairy and tanning industries.
