Cuzco is renowned for its wide variety of street foods, all of which are fantastic Peruvian dishes at extremely reasonable prices. Some will say the best place to go for street food in Cuzco is the City Market, a place where locals flock to get their shopping done, but it's also a great opportunity to peruse a great number of Cuzco's food stalls.
Located a block away from Plaza de Armas, City Market offers tasty meals for less than S/.5 ($2). Some popular choices include the several different coconut carts, wheelbarrow vendors, and anticucho stands. The coconut cart option is one you choose for a nice afternoon snack, as they will sell you a whole coconut, or just the milk if you prefer. The wheelbarrows that move about town offer some tasty, ready-to-eat, fruity treats. The anticucho is similar to the European kebab, but in Cuzco, you can choose between several different types of meats, including those more common to the region such as llama and alpaca.
Finally, where would Cuzco street food be without its famous Cuy? This hearty and authentic Peruvian meal is guinea pig, which is served in a slew of different ways around town. As is the rule for any crowded street market, beware of pickpockets and use your best judgment about each vendor's individual sanitation methods.
