Ica is the capital city of Ica region in Southern Peru. The city was founded in the year 1563 by Geronimo Luis de Cabrera, a Spanish conquistador. The total population of the city is about 219,856, but the city suffered damage and a lot of Ica citizens lost their life in an earthquake which occurred in the year 2007. Ica is situated 300 km away from South Lima and is besides the Ica River. This city is a famous agricultural area where cotton, grapes, olives, asparagus and several other products are cultivated. Ica is a very busy, chaotic and hot city, which is noted for wine. Since the climate of the city is very dry, Peruvians call it as the land of the sun. Natives of Ica claim that the ambiance of the metropolis is suitable for healing asthma. Ica is commonly known as the land of seas, valleys, oases and sand. The festivals of virgen Del Carmen of Chincha, Senor de Luren and Wine festival are the three main events celebrated at Ica.
