Set in the heart of the Amazon Basin, Iquitos’ main attraction is the jungle. Observing and exploring the flora and fauna is breathtaking and exciting. One can also visit various jungle tribes such as Yaguas, Omaguas and Cocamas.
When in Iquitos, take a boat tour of Belén. This area of Iquitos can only be accessed by foot in the dry season and many of the homes here float upon the rising waters every year. The floating market in Belén is a common tourist attraction.
Apart from the abundance of nature that surrounds this city, La Casa de Fierro, or ‘The Iron House’, is worth visiting for the crafts it houses. The old Hotel de Turistas, which stands in front of the new hotel, overlooking the Amazon River as well as the Morey and Cohen houses, along Prospero Street, are architecturally splendid.
Iquitos is also a starting point for various tours into the Amazon jungle and the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve.
