Tourist Guide Machu Picchu
Machu Picchu is one of the most bautiful archeological sites of the world. Today almost 70.000 of people live in Machu Picchu, metropolitan area.
Is located on a high mountain ridge, above the Urubamba Valley, at an elevation of about 2,350 mt. above sea level at 112 Km. from Cusco.
Machu Picchu is sometimes called “the lost city of the Incas” ; in the past, that city, was part of a big complex of fortresses which defended the Andean lands, from indian people.
Machu Picchu is the most visited attraction in Perù; probably built in the 15th century, in a difficult location, since 1983 the site has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The site is divided in three great sectors. The most important is the Sacred District, (located in this zone area the primary archaeological treasures: the “Intiwatana”, the “Temple of the Sun” and the “Room of three windows”.
The other sectors are: the Popular District and the District of the Priests and the Nobility (the residential zone).
