Pisco is the capital city of the Pisco Province situated in the Ica Region in Peru and is 9 meters above the sea level. The city of Pisco originally prospered due to the vineyards and the grape liquor of Peru. The city is famous for the Paracas National Reservation which holds dense birds and marine animals. The Ballestas Islands can be found at the reserve. The Chincha Islands which is located very close to the coast consists of different types of birds like pelicans, Peruvian boobies, cormorants, Inca terns and penguins. Some of the animals found here are sea lions, whales, dolphins and turtles. The origin of the city is from the Paracas culture, an ancient civilization in Peru. Its easy accessibility and the crossways to the Andes made the Spanish consider Pisco as the capital city before they planned Lima. The major portion of the city was destroyed along with the San Clemente Cathedral of Pisco in 2007 in an earthquake.
