Puerto Maldonado, the capital city of Madre de Dios Region is situated in the Southeastern part of Peru. Some of the tourist destinations like the Tambopata National Reserve, Bahuaja Sonene National Park and Manu National Park are located near the Puerto Maldonado city. Puerto Maldonado was founded by Villata in 1902 and is declared as the capital city of Madre de Dios. The city is situated in the hot Amazon Basin. The climate of the city is always humid and hot. The average temperature of the city is recorded as 26 degree Celsius. Puerto Maldonado receives an annual rainfall of about 3.3 ft. When the polar wind starts blowing from the hilly south, a phenomenon called “friaje” or “surazo” occurs. Some of the major industries in the city include gold dredging, boat building, eco-tourism, Brazil nut collecting and logging. At present, the significant sources of income include tourism and boat construction.
