Taquile Island is situated almost 25 kilometer from the Lake Titicaca shore. This scenic island is well known for its friendly inhabitants and has clear blue lake waters. There are also distant snow capped mountains at this island. This island is a beautiful hilly island and is narrow and parenthesis shaped. The island was previously used as a prison during the Spanish Colony and it became the property of the Taquile people in 1970.
