Known for its cultural and traditional exuberance, Puno has some of richest folklore ceremonies to be witnessed. The Festival de la Virgen de la Candelaria features continuous celebrations involving dance and music. The Carnaval also entails much drinking and dancing.
The Fiesta de San Juan de Dios in the month of March is celebrated around the Church of San Juan in Puno. May witnesses the Feria de las Alasita; miniature models houses, cars, etc. are made and blessed by challadores during this festival. The nine-day festival in September, Fiesta de Nuesta Señora de las Mercedes, is equally exciting.
Apart from it festivals, the Balcón del Conde de Lemos, the Museo Municipal Carlos Dreyer, Sillustani Chullpas, and the Yavari, an old steam ship, are places of interest. A walk up to the Manco Capac monument is exciting and adventurous.
