Tourist Guide Tacna

Tacna is a city in southern Peru and regional capital of the Tacna Region.  It is located on the Chile border, inland from the Pacific Ocean, in Caplina River valley.  Tacna is commercial city with many immigrants from the Puno Region living there.  The city hosts one of the largest artifact markets in the world with imports from China and Japan as well as traditional Peruvian handicrafts.

This city is a home to many monuments including the arch of the Alto de la Alianza, showing the significance of the town. Other monuments include a neo-Renaissance Cathedral, the Almeda Bolognesi Walkway and the caves of Toquepata where some of the oldest human remains in Peru have been found.

One can also relish the most important festival in the city, Semana de Tacna, which is celebrated every year from 25th to the 30th of August.  Another festival of Senor de Locumba, celebrated in September of every year draws thousands of tourists and worshipers from around the world.
