Surface: The total land area is around 1,280,000 sq km.

Population:  The population of Peru is around 28,674,757. Amerindians comprise 45% of the population; Mestizos, 37%; Europeans, 15%.

System of government: Peru has a constitutional republican government.

Capital: Lima, with a population of around 7,819,436 inhabitants, is the capital of Peru.

Religion: A majority of the population are Roman Catholics. Adventists and other Christian groups are also present.

Official Language: Spanish and Quechua are the official languages.

Government: Peru has a constitutional republican government.

Climate: The climate in Peru varies from tropical in the east to dry, desert type in the west.

Units of measure and electricity: Peru follows the metric system of measurement and the official electricity unit is 220V, 60 Hz.

Time Zone: The standard time is GMT – 5.

Currency: Nuevo Sol (PEN).

Travel documents required: Passports are necessary for travel to Peru.
Economy

Mineral resources and coastal waters provide Peru with great money-making opportunities. Exports are the main source of income. The country exports metals, petroleum products, coffee, potatoes, asparagus, textiles, and live animals. It imports petroleum products, plastics, machinery, vehicles, iron and steel; wheat, and paper.  

The average cost of living in is not very high. Travel and accommodation are easily available. However, medical care is quite expensive.
