Close to the Pacific coast, Trujillo is one of the larger cities in north-western Peru. It is best known for its seafood, beaches and Huanchaco.
Located near the Moche River, Trujillo is the capital of the La Libertad Region. With a population of 652,000 inhabitants, it is the third most populous city in the country.
Trujillo has a typically dry climate. It is often referred to as ‘La Ciudad de la Eterna Primavera’, or the city of eternal spring, because of its bright, sunny and pleasant weather.
An economic centre of northern Peru, Trujillo is also a significant commercial and transportation centre. It was the city’s extensive agriculture, particularly the sugarcane industry, which fuelled Trujillo’s development. Today, asparagus, rice and shoes are the region’s main exports. Tourism is also a major industry in Trujillo.
