This fairy-tale land is an enchanting city that offers tourists adventure as well as beauty. The main city square, Plaza de Armas provides a glimpse of the city’s history. The Monumento de La Libertad, at its centre, commemorates Trujillo’s independence.
The Trujillo Cathedral Museum houses many relics and artefacts of the old Cathedral. The Ganoza Chipotea House, a fine example of the Baroque style of architecture, is visually appealing.
Iglesia del Carmen, or Church of El Carmen, is a spectacular example of Hispano-American art. Other places of architectural importance are San Francisco, La Merced, Santa Clara and Belén. The Houses of Mayorazgo, which are as old as the city itself, are also worth a visit.
Surrounded by archeologically significant remains, the city is also historically important. Must-see places include: Huanchaco, City of Chan-Chan, Huacas del Sol and de la Luna, and Complejo del Brujo.
