Guanica is a municipality in the south western part of Puerto Rico. The principal town of this area is also called Guanica.
The town of Guanica is located on a deeply indented harbour bordered by rugged hills. The city is characterised by a tropical climate and the average temperature ranges from 23° C to 28° C.
Guanica has a population of 9,300 people. Most of the population is of mixed Spanish origin. Other ethnic groups include the descendants of Africans, Amerindians and Asians.
The culture is a unique and vibrant mix of the various ethnicities. The major influences are of Spanish, Amerindian and American cultures. Puerto Ricans are very proud of their national identity and traditions.
