Atlantida, a city in the Department of Canelones, is located in the Eastern Republic of Uruguay. Situated right along the River of the Silver, Atlantida is only 45 km from the city of Montevideo. The city has a total population of around 4,000 inhabitants.
Atlantida experiences a uniform climate characterized by warm summers and dry winters. This is due to the location of the city within the temperate zone. The city receives fair amounts of rainfall throughout the year. The tourist season extends from January to March.
Initially founded in 1911, the area started developing after 1939 when Natalio Michelizzi purchased the entire land. The development of the metropolitan zone of Montevideo helped Atlantida develop.
