Rio de la Plata is home to the fascinating jungle estuaries, proving to be a must-visit in Uruguay. Punta Del Este boasts of some magnificent beaches, ideal for relaxing and sun bathing. The beaches in Montevideo are also worth visiting. With beautiful sands and water that is sweet, the beach is always bustling with people, usually playing volleyball or soccer.
Lying on the banks of the delta, close to Carmelo, lies the old city of Colonia del Sacramento. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the town is actually a fortified settlement from the fifteenth century. The glory of the town is unarguably the Faro—lighthouse. With a breathtaking view from the top, the lighthouse provides for the perfect photographic opportunity in the night.
Montevideo also has several excellent museums, but one of the most mesmerizing places to visit in the city is the large underground mausoleum known as the Mausoleo Artigas, where many notable Uruguayans are buried.
