Cabo Polonio, a bath in the Department of Rocha, is located in Uruguay. Situated close to the Valizas bath, Cabo Polonio is located close to the Strickles, Enchanted and Small Barren islands. The area has a relatively small but stable population of around 80 inhabitants.
Cabo Polonio experiences a uniform climate characterized by warm summers and dry winters. The city receives fair amounts of rainfall throughout the year. The tourist season extends from January to March.
The name Cabo Polonio is derived from a Spanish galleon that was shipwrecked in 1735. The lighthouse in Cabo Polonio was inaugurated in 1881 and was declared as a historical monument in 1976.
Tourism is the largest money earning sector in Cabo Polonio. The small population of the area is mainly made up of fishermen, craftsmen and the lighthouse personnel.
