The highlight of all events in Uruguay is the Carnaval. Held on the Monday and Tuesday, just before Ash Wednesday, the festival engulfs the entire city of Montevideo in the beats of the drum. La Semana Criolla, celebrated during the Easter, is the time for some traditional festivities like asados (barbecues), horse-breaking, cowboy stunt riding and folk music
International Festival of Children’s Cinema, hosted with the support of organisations such as UNICEF and Cinematica Uruguaya, presents various programmes of children’s interest. It features children’s cinema from all over the world. The festival also hosts several activities for the children.
