No specific vaccinations are required when travelling to Uruguay. However, a yellow fever certificate is necessary if the visitor is travelling from an infected area. The food and water available is not always very safe. In fact, tourists should not use tap water for drinking as it is often contaminated and consume only bottled water.
There is a large risk of Hepatitis A and B in the whole of South America. Hence, visitors are recommended to take a vaccination against the same when travelling to Uruguay. Traveller’s diarrhoea is the most common ailment among tourists. Hence, visitors should come prepared with antibiotics. Also, those carrying prescribed medicines must carry them in their original packing along with the prescription.
As far as safety is concerned, tourists have no major threats or risks involved. However, street crimes are very common in large cities.
