Introduction

Melo: Attractions and more...

The city of Melo, with its architectural patterns, buildings and ancient wells, has managed to maintain its ‘old fashioned city’ status. Melo, which lies at the centre of the border between Uruguay and Brazil, is popularly known as the ‘transport hub for the interior’. One of the most popular locations in Melo is Plaza Constitucion, which acts as the central plaza of the town.

The Iglesia Cathedral, which is situated at the Plaza, is a popular national monument known for its spectacular architecture. The Plaza is also made up of a number of radio and television stations as well as a small park build around a stream known as Arroyo Conventos. The park serves as an ideal location for outdoor activities and afternoon picnics.

Melo is also home to a large number of restaurants, cafes and hotels serving the traditional Brazilian Bauru sandwiches. Carnaval is the most widely celebrated festival in Melo.
