Salvo Palace also known as Palacio Salvo is a building in Montevideo which consists of offices, shops and apartments and was built by the Italian architect Mario Palanti in 1928.
The building is 100 meters high and is designed in art deco style. It is the tallest building in Montevideo with another building on the other side of the river called the Palacio Barolo which was also built by Mario Palanti.
It is situated in front of the main square Plaza Independencia and 18 de Julio Avenue. The building was meant to be a hotel with private residential units however this did not work out and the place now functions as a complex of offices and residences.
The Plaza also has a statue of General Artigas who was the national hero of Uruguay. The Salvo Palace is built on the site where Gerardo Matos Rodriguez wrote the first tango in 1917.
