Rivera, capital of the Department of Rivera, is located in Uruguay. Situated on the Brazilian border, Rivera is an international city. With a population of around 64,400 inhabitants, Rivera occupies a part of the Penillanura Cristalina.
The city of Rivera experiences a uniform climate characterized by warm summers and dry winters. This is due to the location of the city within the temperate zone. The city receives fair amounts of rainfall throughout the year.
In 1943, the Plaza Internacional was built, which gave the city an ‘international city’ status. The city serves as the birthplace of Aparicio Mendez, a former Uruguayan President.
Tourism, agriculture, mining, and cattle rearing are the major money earning sectors in Rivera.
