Tourist Guide Tacuarembó
Tacuarembó, a town in Uruguay, is located in the north-central part of the country. It is the capital of the Department of Tacuarembó. This department is the largest of all departments in Uruguay. The population of Tacuarembó is 51,224 as per the 2004 census. The majority of the population is Roman Catholic with a few Latin races. Portuguese/Brazilians defeated the great patriot of Uruguay, José Artigas in Tacuarembó. After the defeat, Artigas ended his long struggle for freedom and went in exile. He never returned to the city. The city has a famous football club named Tacuarembó Fútbol Club. It is simply known as Tacuarembó. This football club created many stars for the great Uruguayan football team. The economy of the Department of Tacuarembó is dependent on sheep and cattle bovid, rice and forest production. This helped the growth of sawmills and some of the industries of Tacuarembó, the capital of Tacuarembó Department.
