El Capitolio Nacional, built in 1870, is situated to the southwest of Plaza Bolivar and is a government building.
Its oval hall, Salon Eliptic, has a Carrboro on the ceiling of the dome which dates back to 1888. The Act of Independence, signed on 5th July 1811, is kept here and displayed to the public every year.
The Capitolio Nacional built under President Antonio Guzman Blanco consists of two buildings - the Federal Palace and the Legislative Palace. The entire building is home to the Legislative Power which is now the National Assembly.
The Eliptic Hall, the great fountain on magnificent grounds and the wonderful paintings by Martin Tovar y Tovar are some of the memories which every tourist can take home with him.
