In Caracas, if you feel like getting closer to nature  or you just want to take a jog, you can't do better than head for the Parque Francisco de Miranda, popularly known as Parque del Este.

The largest park of Caracas, it is a haven of tranquility away from the urban confusion, dotted by small ponds amongst groves of trees, the artificial lake, where you can admire a replica of the Santa Maria (one of Columbus' ships), a tropical garden and a zoological garden filled with exotic animals, including the majestic anaconda.

Or if you feel like being sporty, you can join some of the other many visitors of the park for a game of soccer, volley or even to have an open air BBQ with your friends!
Designed by the famous brazilian architect Roberto Burle Marx in 1956, the park was officially opened in 1961 and has seen periods of disrepair, but has been totally restored in the 2000s and is now as glorious as ever.
