Iglesia de Santa Inés, a twentieth-century structure, is a good place to visit when in Cumaná. The building houses some rare artefacts from Cumaná’s past. The statue of the patron saint from the sixteenth century is the main attraction in here. There is a popular cathedral at Plaza Blanco which is worth visiting.
However, the primary attraction in Cumaná is the Castillo de San Antonio de la Eminencia. This seventeenth-century fortress is made of coral walls has stood the test of time. It still stands firm to attract tourists in large numbers. The fortress also houses a small museum and a prison which are worth visiting.
The Cumaná Castle is also a major tourist attraction as one can get stunning views of the city and the sea from here. Other sites of interest in the city are the Santa Ines Church, Museum Antonio José de Sucre and Museo del Mar. Thus, this city is a haven for all history lovers, albeit its scenic beauty should not be underestimated.
