El Tigre, capital of the Simon Rodriguez Municipality, is located in Anzoategui, Venezuela. The city which is an important economic centre of Venezuela is also an important communications centre. It has a total population of around 162,500 inhabitants.
The city experiences a mild subtropical climate characterized by a dry and a wet season. The wet season lasts from May to November and the dry season from December to April. The wet season is often referred to as winter.
El Tigre gained importance and popularity due to the presence of oil reserves in the region. The city was officially founded in 1933 during the perforation of the first well.
The petroleum industry is the largest money-making sector in El Tigre. Agriculture and tourism are also important sources of economy. The city is also a major communications centre.
