Venezuela does not require any particular vaccination prior to entry; however, it is advisable for tourists to be immunised against yellow fever, Hepatitis A and typhoid. Malaria is rampant in jungle areas, therefore caution against mosquitoes is recommended, though prophylaxis is not needed when in Caracas. The most common disease that visitors tend to contract is diarrhoea. Those with a sensitive system should be especially careful when eating fruit.
Drinking water found here is not safe, but bottled water is available. Medical insurance before travelling is highly recommended.
The Venezuela–Colombia border is very famous for smuggling, violence, kidnapping and drug-trafficking. Travellers should be very careful against bogus taxi-drivers who are known to have stolen from their passengers at gun-point. Visitors are advised to use only cabs which are licensed radio taxis or those from some reputed hotel.
