Fishing, sailing and windsurfing are some of the several water-based activities that are carried out on the numerous beaches of Margarita Island. International tourists often visit Playa El Agua, Playa Parguito, Playa Caribe and Punta de Arena. The Isla Margarita Golf Club is the perfect haven for lovers of the ‘golf club’.
Architecture lovers should visit La Asunción to catch a glimpse of the colonial architecture. Other buildings of interest are Nueva Cadiz Museum, the Parish Church, the old Convent San Francisco and Santa Rosa Castle.
Although Porlamar and Pampatar are said to have some good restaurants and eating joints, the best can be found only in Juan Griego.
Margarita Island offers some of the world’s best pearls in the world. Other attractive souvenirs are woven hammocks, ceramic as well as straw pieces and wooden carvings. The easy access to duty-free international objects is the greatest attraction for tourists.
