Maturin, capital of the State of Monagas, is located in Venezuela. Situated right next to the Guarapiche River, the city of Maturin is highly important due to its booming oil industry. The city has a total population of around 500,000 inhabitants.
The city experiences a mild subtropical climate characterized by a dry and a wet season. The wet season lasts from May to November and the dry season from December to April.
Officially founded on 7 December 1760, this city was previously known as San Juan de le Tornera de Maturin, and its founder was Juan de la Tornera y Sota, a Spanish governor. The Spaniards moved to the city in the nineteenth century and named it San Fernando de Maturin.
The economy of the city of Maturin depends on its booming oil industry. The city also serves as an important communications centre of the east.
