Puerto Ayacucho was founded in December 1924 on the banks of the River Orinoco in Venezuela. It is the capital as well as the largest city of Amazonas.  According to recent estimates, the city is inhabited by 70,000 people approximately, with the major percentage of the population dominated by the Creoles.

The landscape of Puerto Ayacucho is extremely diverse and unique. The terrain of the region comprises black granite rocks and savannah vegetation. The city enjoys a tropical climate; thus, the weather is hot and humid throughout the year. It has an annual average temperature of 25°C and can be visited throughout the year.

This city served as a transportation centre for goods, especially rubber, in the nineteenth century. The economy of the city is now dependent on its flourishing tourism industry.
