That is why the city is well known for its historical sites and tourists attractions. Colonial Williamsburg is... more the center of attraction in the city. This is a living museum of history. It depicts the cultural history and heritage of the city that dates back to the 18th century. The First Capitol Building of Virginia is yet another historical site in the city. Brunton Parish Church is the oldest church in US that is still operating. The church is well restored in the colonial era style. The historic area in Williamsburg is spread across an area of nearly 173 acres. There are 88 original constructions and 50 reconstructed buildings. The Governor's Palace dates back to 1722. In 1781, this building served as a hospital for soldiers during the Yorktown Battle. The Courthouse was built in 1770. Like several other government buildings, even the Courthouse was used as a hospital during the war. Visitors can also see the Public Gaol in this city. It is a historical place where criminals waiting for their trials were kept.
