Info about El Calafate

Elevation:
199 m
Overview

El Calafate is a town in Santa Cruz, in the southern part of Argentina. This town with a population of approximately 8,000 inhabitants is named after the bush ‘calafate’ which grows in abundance in the area.
El Calafate is known as the national capital of the glaciers as it is the starting point of most of the glacier circuits in the region.
The climate in this region is dry. The average temperature during summers is 19°C and during winters, 3°C. Strong winds blowing across the region are a common occurrence.
Originally, the town was nothing more than a shelter for wool traders before they moved ahead. After being ‘founded’ less than a century ago, it started developing. But, it was only with the creation of national park and better roads to attract visitors that the village began to grow.

The name of the place is also derived... more from the two. The place is very popular in between the people who are very excited about the glaciers and National Parks. The best points to visit in the place are Perito, Moreno Glacier. Cerro Chalten, Los Glaciers National Park and Cerro Torre. Tourist coming to the place makes sure that they visit one of the wonders of the world that is Perito Moreno Clacier. EL Calafate is a place that looks like it’s drawn by one of the best painters of the world. The place is like scenery with every bit, as beautiful as in the charm of nature is bestowed at the place. Being the glaciers the place also attracts adventure sports as well, which is also some tourists come to this place. You could go and enjoy fishing also.
