Budget Art - Stockholm
A few years ago the Swedish government decreed that all museums offer free entry. Unfortunately by the time of writing this experiment had failed and museums are now charging again for entry. But there is still a wealth of free and cheap art available if you know where to look.
Stockholm officially has 74 museums on offer and a great many of these offer discounted entry for students or the elderly. Children (approximately those under 19 years) also often get in for free and most museums offer free entry to all for a few hours every week, so plan ahead!
Kulturhuset is one such place with a world renowned series of exhibitions; similarly Stockholm city museum and the Medieval museum of Stockholm offer a lot for a little cost.
Forum för Levande Historia (The Living History Forum) is a real highlight of this city, dealing with the difficult subject of the Holocaust. Head also to the Haga Park Museum which includes the ruins of Gustav III’s unfinished castle.
