The metropolitan area of Newcastle can be described as the 2nd most densely populated region within ‘New South Wales’. Moreover, it’s inclusive of majority of ‘New Castle’ and ‘Lake Macquarie Local Government’ regions.
Located at a distance of 162 Km towards Sydney’s NNE, at Hunter River’s mouth, it’s amongst the predominant cities in ‘Hunter region’. Known for cola, Newcastle has gained popularity as the biggest harbor of coal export across the globe; thereby having exported 88880000 tonnes.
Newcastle’s northern side has been dominated by swamps, sand dunes, and ‘multiple river channels’. ‘Green Belt’ which protects wildlife and plants goes on to flank this city from west, i.e. Watagan Mountains across the north. It is here that this region meets coast. Due to this, restrictions come in terms of urban development.
Newcastle’s climate is of humid/oceanic subtropical type; much like northern and central New south Wales. Winters are usually cold and summers mild.

Overall Guide : ObeliskObelisk has been victmised loads of times before. In the year 1819, ‘Commandant Colonel Morisett’ went on to appeal to Governor to obtain permission regarding building of a windmill for being utilized to grind flour. The year 1820 marked its... more completion. It came to be known by the name ‘Government Flour Mill’ then. As it stood upon a ‘natural hill’, windmill could be visible even from a distance. However, in the year 1847, decision was taken to have demolished this mill. It was bought by one of the residents of Newcastle thereafter. Such a thing resulted in strong protests amongst ‘shipping quarters’. Protest of this type forced government to do something in favor of shipping quarters. Obelisk Park was, however, constructed on this spot in the year 1850. It had been the place where old one had been located.
