Brussels - Kasteleinsplein
For a Belgian flea market that is a bit more upscale than all the rest, head toward Place du Châtelain, located in Brussels’ Kasteleinsplein. Once a week this famous square transforms into a busy street market, with vendors offering everything from fresh produce to vintage garments and beautiful plants.
Before going to this market in search of antiques and old trinkets, you should take into consideration that most things for sale here are substantially more expensive, especially when compared to other street markets in Brussels, such as the Flea Market at Jeu de Balle or the Sainte-Catherine Square Fish Market. You will find that most things are priced two or three times higher at Place du Châtelain. However, this market offers a handful of special luxuries that the other ones certainly do not.
With parking available very close to the vendors, you can stroll into a number of stalls and sample wine and champagne along with your choice of gourmet cheese. There is understandably a smaller crowd here due to its higher price and well-groomed ambiance, but if you have the means, a visit is strongly recommended, as there is also outdoor terrace seating in Kasteleinsplein’s surrounding cafés. The market at Place du Châtelain in Kasteleinsplein is open from 2 pm to 7 pm every Wednesday.
