Many believe Belgian cuisine to be just a blend of French and German gastronomy, but Brussels is developing a unique culinary style all of its own. If you don’t already know what you would order at a Belgian restaurant, keep reading.
When searching for authentic Brussels food, be sure to look for Lapin à la Gueuze, which is succulent rabbit cooked in wheat beer. Another staple in the foodie community of Brussels is Poulet à la Bruxelles. It is chicken steak packed with Brussels sprouts and cheese, and then fried in beer and butter. Though it does sound like an artery clogger, this dish is seemingly a mandatory one for most restaurants in Brussels. Usually served with rice, it is often topped with Swiss cheese and a delectable milk sauce! Finally, if you’re not stuffed, be sure to order Dame Blanche, which is simply Belgian vanilla ice cream coated in thick Belgian chocolate sauce.
