Bruges Monuments and Historic Buildings: Basilica of the Holy Blood

The Basilica of the Holy Blood is a basilica situated in Bruges and was originally built in the 12th century as a chapel. This historic building was promoted to basilica in the year 1923. There is also a festival, the Procession of the Holy Blood which is held on Ascension Day during the spring. During this time, the bishop of Bruges carries this relic through the streets.
