Sarajevo, capital of this country, has got through a period of harshness and war, but, at present, it is a tourist resort again! Due to its geographical position, since the ancient past, it has always been a sort of gateway for Greeks and Asians to or from Europe.
During the years Sarajevo has experimented different civilizations, cultures and traditions that now cohexist on the same land.Little by little Sarajevo is changing its aspect in better: schools, sports facilities, restaurants, streets embellished with new trees and streets lamps!
Sarajevo, important for its food and tabacco industry, is also the seat of an Orthodox Eastern metropolitan, a Roman Catholic archbishop, and the chief ulema of Bosnia's Muslims. The Turkish old town partly rebuilt, houses the National Library.

Overall Guide : Sarajevo is one of the most historically interesting and varied cities in Europe. It is a place where the Western & Eastern Roman Empire split; where the people of the Roman Catholic west, Eastern Orthodox east and the Ottoman south,... more met, lived and warred. It has been both an example of historical turbulence and the clash of civilizations, as well as a beacon of hope for peace and tolerance through multi-cultural integration. The city is historically famous for its traditional religious diversity, with adherents of Islam, Orthodoxy, Catholicism and Judaism coexisting there for centuries. Today, the city has physically recovered from most of the war damage caused by the Yugoslav Wars of the 1992-1995. Sarajevo is a cosmopolitan European capital with a unique Eastern twist that is a delight to visit. The people are very friendly, be they Bosniaks, Croats, or Serb. There is very little crime, and the city ranks as one of the safest in South Eastern Europe. The travel guide series, Lonely Planet, listed Sarajevo as one of the top ten cities to visit in 2010. In 2011, Sarajevo became the only city outside the European Union to be nominated for the European Capital of Culture in 2014.
Not to be missed Try local food cevapcici and pie , visit film, jazz and theatre festival , visit mountain Jahorina or Bjelasnica

Overall Guide : The National History Museum has a powerful exhibit on the 1992-1995 war. The Alija Izetbegovic Museum focuses on the war as well. The National Museum is closed however and the Tunnel Museum was closed when we went as well-check before... more heading all the way out there. All of the other attractions are within walking distance of the old Ottoman town center.
Not to be missed National History Museum , Jewish Museum , Gazi Osman Pasha Mosque
