Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo is the oldest art museum which is housed in a beautiful neoclassical building. This museum has more than 5000 permanent works of the 19th and 20th century Brazilian sculpture and paintings. There are also rotating temporary exhibits which are of top notch international caliber. Through the museum one can also access the sister gallery, named Estacao Pinacoteca which is nearby the building used to torture the political prisoners. It is small and has fine collection of modern art works.
